Total Fire Ban - 25th January 2026
A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Sunday 25th January 2026 across several regions in NSW including the Eastern Riverina which encompasses Greater Hume and Albury Local Government Areas.
There is a heatwave through the region for the coming days so be prepared that fire ban conditions will continue into the next week.
It is our policy that in any instance of a Total Fire Ban that applies to any part of the track (regardless of which LGA is affected), then the entire length of the Hume & Hovell Track will close to ensure walkers safety.
For this reason the Track is now CLOSED for the duration of the Fire Ban. From midnight tonight, you are not permitted to enter any part of the track under these conditions.
Given the current weather conditions and very high fire rating this closure could extend over the coming days.
If you know someone who is currently on the track and cannot be contacted, please notify emergency services or contact us for further advice.
For more information please see the NSW RFS website Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Bans - NSW Rural Fire Service
A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A Total Fire Ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open or carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.
Compliance to these rules is mandatory and can be enforced if required.
