HumeLink West Clearing Near Buddong Hut
HumeLink West has advised that clearing for the new transmission lines across the Hume and Hovell Track near Buddong Hut will commence in March.
Signage will be placed at either side of the HumeLink work area and a spotter will be in attendance to ensure no impact on track users. An escort will be provided through the work zone as required.
The Track will remain open, however, walkers will require an escort to pass through the work zone. Track users are advised to take care and follow all directions provided by HumeLink personnel on site.
Clearing of the area will occur in two stages as detailed below:
Anticipated initial clearing (week commencing 2 March or 9 March)
The initial clearing crew, including one excavator, will cross the track near Buddong Hut.
Main clearing works (approx. week commencing 23 March)
Large trees will be felled during this work and an exclusion zone will be required during work hours for approximately 5 days (weather permitting).
Project staff will be positioned at either side of the work zone to escort any track users. A UHF radio will be made available as a backup.
The area will be made safe for the track to remain open outside of working hours.
Once clearing is complete, temporary delays may be experienced if equipment needs to cross the track (eg a skidder moving logs).
Further details and updates on the HumeLink West project can be found on their website. The project is a key segment of Transgrid’s major 500kV transmission project in NSW.
The main construction involves building transmission towers and stringing transmission lines across the 140km HumeLink West alignment. This alignment crosses the Hume and Hovell Track just south of Buddong Hut.
