Henry Angel Trackhead to Mannus Lake

This is a long but beautiful walk along the Burra Creek down to the Tumbarumba Creek valley before climbing Mannus ridge through Bogandyera Nature Reserve and descending down to Mannus Lake. It is historically very significant, for both the gold mining evidence along Burra Creek and because the explorers, Hume and Hovell, followed this same route and first viewed the Snowy Mountains from Big Hill.

Walking notes

This is an interesting and varied day walk. The Track follows Burra Creek for 3kms through an area that was subjected to extensive gold mining in the past. Past Burra Falls the gold mining ceased and the Track follows the creek passing multiple waterfalls. The valley and Track steepen at the confluence of the Burra and Tumbarumba creeks. Tumbarumba Creek is crossed via the Col Daniel Bridge.

Once the Tumbarumba Creek is crossed, it is a long climb up to the top of Mannus Ridge, with steep sections along the way. The Track crosses Mount Garland Trail at the top of the ridge and then it is a steep descent down to Mannus Lake through native bush then out into open grazing country.

Please note, this Short Walk section is impacted by flooding during current the La Nina rain events and there may be high water levels surrounding and across the track. The track may be muddy, slippery and wet - you will need to be prepared for wet conditions.
