Micalong Creek bridge damaged

The iconic 12m steel bridge on Micalong Creek just north of Bossawa Campsite has been damaged by a (very large!) tree falling across it. This has caused catastrophic failure to the structural foundations and will need to be fully replaced.

The bridge is over a steep part of the Micalong Creek gorge and is a vital crossing point on the track. While the bridge is out of commission there will be a short detour in place on forestry roads to allow walkers to find their way through this section. Please see the detour map here

Co-ordinating the original build required a lot of planning and engineering, relying on alternative methods to manoeuvre materials into position. So it is expected that the repair works to replace the damaged bridge will be just as complex.

Walkers are urged not to attempt to cross the damaged bridge and to always be prepared with track maps in the event that detours on track are required due to unexpected track issues.

Images below show the bridge before and after it was damaged
