FCNSW Herbicide Spraying For Plantation Establishment

Forestry Corporation of NSW will soon be applying herbicide to recently planted pine plantations at the Burra West softwood plantation and in Bago State Forest at Blowering South. These sites are adjacent to the Hume & Hovell Track. The operations will occur in the region between 14th September and 30th November 2026, with the timing and duration of works being weather dependent.

Spraying will be via ground-based or helicopter application. Ground based application will be used when spraying within 150m of the walking track.

The following herbicides (commonly used in backyards, recreational areas, and agricultural industries) will be used:

• Hexazinone (e.g. Hexmac, Hexasure)

• Clopyralid (e.g. Lontrel, Clop750)

• Haloxyfop (e.g. Hallotop)

• Oxyfluorfen (e.g. Galigan 500)

• Adjuvants (eg: Takedown Oil, Heartbeat)

The areas undergoing the treatment (shown in yellow on the maps below) are located to the north and south of Junction Campsite (Burra West) and south of Yellowin Forest Park (Blowering). Signs will be placed at the entrances when operations are occurring and spotters will be used at Blowering while spraying. Please follow all directions regarding entry.

Please note: the Hume & Hovell Track passes through numerous land tenures which means access and management may be impacted by the governing body. This includes chemical usage, harvesting operations, road works and maintenance.
