FCNSW Herbicide Application Program

Forestry Corporation of NSW has advised that they will soon be applying herbicide to fire affected and recently harvested areas on State Forest near the Hume & Hovell Track in preparation for forest replanting. The timing and duration of works is weather dependent and will be via ground-based or helicopter application. Operations will occur in the region between mid-February 2023 and May 2023. Each site will receive one treatment.

The following herbicides will be used:
Glyphosate (eg: Crucial, Glymac Bi Dri)
Metsulfuron Methyl (eg: Metmac)
Picloram (eg: Picoflex)
Clopyralid (eg: Clomac, Lontrel)
Adjuvants (eg: Sprinta Superwetter, Liase)

We are advised that these herbicides are commonly used in backyards, recreational areas and agricultural industries.

The herbicide application will be occurring in the yellow highlighted area, with the Hume & Hovell Track being the purple line as shown on the maps below (supplied by Forestry Corporation of NSW). Areas undergoing treatment include Micalong, Wee Jasper, Blowering and Blue Hills.

During operations, signage will be in place and access roads closed with a safety spotter in place if the track passes immediately adjacent to the operation area. Any nearby camping sites will also be checked before commencement

Areas in the region which have been windrowed during site preparation are scheduled to be burnt in autumn 2023. Finally, these treated areas will be replanted with radiata pine in winter 2023. For further information or enquiries specific to this work please contact Roger Davies on 0429 831 082 or visit the Forestry Corporation website at www.forestrycorporation.com.au

Please note: the Hume & Hovell Track passes through numerous land tenures which means access and management may be impacted by the governing body. This includes chemical usage, harvesting operations, road works and maintenance.
